A 28 de Janeiro de 1985 era gravada a música We Are The World, para angariar fundas para as vitimas da fome em África.

O single, o LP e o videoclip renderam cerca de 55 milhões de dólares. Formou-se o grupo USA for Africa.

Michael Jackson organizou a gravação da música e teledisco e, a par com Lionel Richie, escreveu a letra:
